1. Under the Shagun (Ashirwad) Scheme an amount of Rs.15000/- will be given to the parents/guardians of girls belonging to BPL SC families/BPL Christian families including widow/divorcee on their re-marriage and BPL widow families of the Punjab Domicile on the occasion of their marriages.

 

2. In the case of non-survival of the parents, draft is prepared in the name of girl and disbursed.

 

The amount is given only to those parents /guardians/widows/ divorcee who fulfill the following conditions:

 

i)                     That the girl is above 18 years of age which is the minimum legal age for the marriage of the girl ;

 

ii)                     That she belongs to BPL SC family/BPL Christian family and BPL widow family; and from the year 2006-07, affidavit in respect of income proof i.e. Rs. 20,000/- for rural and Rs. 27500/- per annum for urban area, which is certified from SDM or PCS Officer having power of Executive Magistrate.

 

iii)                    That she is domicile of Punjab State and her parents/guardians are also domicile of Punjab State.

 

 

iv)                   This benefit is of Rs. 15000/- for marriage of each girl and limited upto two girls of each family.

 

v) In the case of non-survival of the parents, draft is prepared in the name of girl and disbursed.

 

        The parents/guardians seeking the financial assistance under "Ashirwad Scheme" are required to submit their application to the concerned Tehsil Welfare Officer after verification from Gram Panchayats (for rural areas) and MCs/NACs (for urban areas).

 

Moreover the applicants are required to submit their application within one month and after one month of the date of marriage.

 

Ashirwad amount is also given on the marriages of the girls who have become widow/divorce, who had not availed Ashirwad amount for their earlier marriage provided that they belong to BPL SCs/BPL Christian families/BPL widow families.
